Video: Matewan Unscripted, in commemoration of the Battle of Matewan Centennial

The West Virginia Mine Wars Museum intended to have our grand reopening on May 16, 2020, in correlation with the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Matewan.

Instead, we are marking the Battle of Matewan Centennial virtually with an unscripted tour around the historic town of Matewan, guided by the townspeople who have worked tirelessly over the years to preserve this proud working people's history.

Follow us along, and we'll take you around to hidden sites related to the Battle of Matewan and the West Virginia Mine Wars. You'll get to see the Stone Mountain Coal Camp where miners were thrown out of their homes on the morning of May 19, 1920, the site of the gun battle, the 1908 Old Jail & Lock-Up that once served as Sid Hatfield's headquarters, the Matewan Methodist Church, the graves of Sid Hatfield and Ed Chambers, and more!
