We have some important news about our Grand Reopening that we want to share with you.
Our team met over the phone the first week of April, along with officers of UMWA Local 1440. On this call, we made the tough decision to postpone our Grand Reopening and Local 1440's dedication of the building to Cecil E. Roberts scheduled for May 16.
We are devastated to miss this special day of commemoration for the 100 Year Anniversary of the Battle of Matewan, but we believe postponing for the safety and wellbeing of our visitors and our town to be the wisest choice. Right now, that means we have to stand in solidarity together by standing apart from one another.
It's hard to tell when we'll be having our gathering in Matewan. Our team will be meeting on a monthly basis to reassess the situation. We will be planning for another day to host the museum's Grand Reopening and Local 1440's dedication of the building, but no official date has been set yet.
However, we will be working on some online programming to share with you all in May to commemorate the Battle of Matewan Centennial. So, stay tuned for more updates to come your way!
