Uncovering Our Past: Building Our Future

At the beginning of this year, we partnered with local students at Tug Valley High School of Mingo County, Westside High School of Wyoming County, and Explorer Academy of Cabell County. Students completed lessons on the Mine Wars, and created art based on their learning. That work came together as our newest Solidarity Gallery exhibit Uncovering Our Past: Building Our Future.

These bandanas titled Save The Trees Bandana and Raven The Bunny were designed and printed by elementary schoolers Olivia Daniels & Aniyah Pursoo from Explorer Academy.

The work displayed in the gallery represents local students’ interpretations of West Virginia's decades-long labor history. We're proud to present a joint collaboration among West Virginia students and teachers, featuring a curated gallery of new artwork including original drawings and paintings by students in our region. This month, students, their teachers and their parents will be attending a reception at the Museum for them to see their artwork in our Solidarity Gallery!

Be sure to plan your visit to the Museum prior to our closing for the season on November 19th to see this artwork in action!
